His father, Shah Abdur Rahim, was a prominent Islamic scholar of his time and one of the important members of the committee that compiled Fatawa-e-Alamgiri, the code of law promulgated by Mughal King, Aurangzeb. He was born to an influential religious family with a strong attachment to the Mughal empire. This is how he came to be known as Shah Waliullah which means friend of Allah in Arabic. He was a devout Muslim and known for his piety and religiously. He was born on February 21, 1703, in Dehli, India. The original name of Shah Waliullah was Quṭb-ud-Din Aḥmad.
